The GSCP has revised and published its Learning from Practice Document, adding in the Youth Justice Board notifiable incidents. The document outlines how the partnership respond to and learn from, serious incidents. View and download a copy of the revised document on our website.

Amongst the updates and news posts below, you will find the recently agreed Greenwich Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) Pathway for Children and Young People. The pathway aims to simplify the referral pathway and is intended for all practitioners across the partnership, who work with children or with adults who have children. Please circulate and disseminate this across your agency.

As you may already be aware, phase 1 of the Child Safeguarding Practice Review Panel review: Safeguarding Children with Disabilities and Complex Health Needs in Residential Settings, has recently been published. You can view a copy of the report here.

Phase 2 of the review will seek to learn from what happened to the children in the settings within the scope, so that in future children with complex needs and disabilities are kept safe and thrive in residential schools registered as children’s homes, including identifying any changes that need to be made to policy and practice to keep children safe and well in residential placements.

Phase 2 work will be structured around three key lines of enquiry:

• What needs to happen to ensure the voices of children with complex health needs and disabilities are listened to and heard?

• What are the respective roles of different professionals in keeping children with the most complex needs safe? What changes, if any, are required to improve their effectiveness?

• What are the conditions for efficient and effective commissioning so that children with complex health can access the very best support to meet their needs in a timely way?

It has been agreed by the Greenwich Safeguarding Children Partnership Strategic Leadership Group that an extended review will be completed in Greenwich. The extended review will include Children in our Care with an Education, Health and Care Plan who are placed in a residential setting and children who have an Education, Health and Care Plan, are placed in a residential special school and, are not a in our care. We will update you on the findings and recommendations of this review when they become available.
